Are you experiencing abdominal pain? Believe it or not, the culprit of your pain could be what you are eating. If you’re having abdominal pain and indigestion, knowing what not to eat is extremely important.

Here are 5 foods to avoid when you’re having tummy troubles:

Dairy Products

Dairy is difficult to digest. Milk contains sugar lactose and if lactose isn’t digested properly, it can cause gas and bloating resulting in abdominal pain. If you consume too much lactose, it goes into the large intestine and more digestive problems can occur. Try some lactose options instead of dairy is giving you stomach trouble.

Spicy Foods

If you are experiencing abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, avoid foods that stimulate the digestive system such as spicy foods.  Try some bland foods if you are having digestive problems and avoid spices if you’re sensitive to them.

Acidic Foods

If your stomach is upset, avoid acidic foods. Acidic foods include tomato sauce and citrus fruits like lemons, limes, oranges and grapefruits.  Even carbonated beverages are acidic!

Fried Foods

Fried foods can move through your body, undigested, really quickly and lead to diarrhea, or, stay in your digestive track too long—causing abdominal pain. A lot of fried foods are low in fiber, which take them longer to digest. Avoid fried foods if you are dealing with constipation or diarrhea.

Processed Foods

Processed foods lack fiber. Fiber helps to regulate bowel movements. If you’re constipated or experiencing abdominal pain, avoid processed foods. There are some packaged foods that also contain lactose which can give you gas and add even more discomfort to what you’re already going through.
